  Officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a small Himalayan land squeezed in between the Peoples' Republic of China and the Republic of India in the Southern region of Asia. With an area covering 147,156 square km, Nepal is a landlocked country. It lies above the border of the Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates which indeed formed the magnificent mountain range.  The east to a west stretch of the land is around 800 km and the north to south averages 200 km. historically; Nepal is one of few countries with a sovereign history, as no external forces have been able to colonize. UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley

A Hindu temple in Patan The Kathmandu Valley has seven World Heritage sites within a distance of roughly 28km making it the foundation of Nepali History and Arts. It has earned the reputation of being an open museum for its many temples and monuments, all located in close proximity. In touring the city one can inspect various religious places of historical marks. In ancient Time various Kings, to offer security to the city dwellers and to ward off evils, built various temples dedicated to different Gods and Goddesses, including Astamaatrika (Eight Goddesses). There once was a time, it is said, when Temples in Kathmandu outnumbered houses, with more idols and statues of different Gods and Goddesses than the actual number of people who lived in the valley. This is also one reason why these ancient temples and monuments continue to fascinate and attract visitors from different parts of the world.
